New Villages organizing

New "Villages" are getting started in our area.  We've been in touch recently with organizers of the Potomac Community Village and the Little Falls Village.

Villages are grassroots organizations that make it easier for seniors to stay connected and access resources.  The BCC Regional Services Center has been involved in promoting the Village movement since 2008.  Our Village Blueprint, a how-to guide for establishing a village, is available for download at our blog.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Board meetings are held the third Monday of the month, and begin at 7:00 PM. Committee meetings may be held in the morning or evening depending on the issues to be discussed. Members are expected to contribute approximately six hours each month, and to attend both board and committee meetings.

Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. An application, consisting of a brief cover letter and resume, should be sent by mail to County Executive Isiah Leggett, 101 Monroe Street, 2nd Floor, Rockville, MD 20850, or by email to countyexecutive.boards@montgomerycountymd.gov. The deadline for application is April 3, 2013. Vacancy announcements for boards, committees, and commissions are available through the following link.

Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members of these boards are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council.
