|Artist Robert Gates with a mock-up of the mural|
The first floor/plaza level lobby of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services center will be the new home for the historic mural that was on display at the Bethesda Post Office from 1939 until 2012, when the office closed.
The mural depicts a scene at the Bethesda Women's Farmers Market and was painted by Robert Gates with funds from the Works Progress Administration.
The mural's claim to fame is that Eleanor Roosevelt called the sketch of the mural "charming". If the first lady thinks your work of art is charming then you'll certainly get the commission for the project (which Robert Gates got in 1938).
Installation began December 4th and finished on the 6th.. Feel free to come by and check out this beautiful and historically significant mural!
